Disclaimer: I don’t own Harry Potter or anything for that matter.

Chapter 1: Destiny

Hogwarts castle was silent and dark. All the lights were out and the students asleep. However, Slytherin common room couldn’t be busier. Headmaster Dumbledore and the other teachers were trying to make a very pregnant Lily Potter comfortable. She is in labor with Severus Snape’s child. “How did you convince my wife to sleep with you?” roared and enraged James Potter. Severus remained silent. He was having a hard enough time believing that she could have gotten pregnant so easily.

Minerva McGonagall was squeezing Lily’s hand as another contraction came. Madame Pomfrey was shouting orders at the others for more blankets, more towels, and more pillows. Another contraction and Pomfrey yelled, “Push!” After several pushes, everyone heard Pomfrey yell, “It’s a girl!” Lily had given birth to a little girl with a small tuft of black hair on her head.

James was standing over Lily, hugging and kissing her. He made a move for the child but Severus stood in his way. “This child is mine. I won’t let you touch her.” Lily called Severus over to her. “I want James to raise our baby-” “No!” roared Severus. “I will not allow my daughter to call that man father!” Severus was deeply enraged. After much protest to Severus, Lily finally gave up her child to him.

Before Severus had a chance to hold her, the child was thoroughly examined by almost every teacher at every angle. A scream came from Trelawney as she examined the child next. “That mark! The mark of the evil one!” She was pointing horrified at the child’s right wrist. Severus, anxious that his child was hurt, came to see what was wrong and nearly fell over when he saw the source of the problem. In the right corner of his daughter’s inner wrist was the dark mark in the form of a birth mark.

Snape turned to Dumbledore to guidance on the matter. Dumbledore examined the child’s mark and tried to remove it but there was no hope. The mark kept coming back more and more clearer. Dumbledore, with a sigh, said, “You must keep her away from magic, Severus. If not kept at a reasonable distance from magic, she may turn to the dark lord, Voldemort.” Severus was staring down at the tiny form of his child in the arms of the headmaster. “What if she shows signs of powers? There can be no keeping her from magic that way.” Dumbledore looked back down at the child then up at Severus. “If your daughter should show any signs of powers, then we will accept her as a student. However, we cannot put her in Slytherin. She would be too close to dark forces that way. She would have to be put in one of the other houses and her classes be modified so that she only learns to defend herself against the dark arts instead of learning about them.”

Severus Snape was at a loss for words. Was she really cursed by the dark lord? Why did she have that mark? He thought hard for a moment but finally said, “Headmaster? I need your permission to raise her here.” Everyone looked at Severus with confusion. He continued on, “If she is really cursed by the dark lord, then she would be safer within the walls of Hogwarts. I want her as far as possible from that man.” The headmaster smiled and said, “It would only be appropriate that the Princess of Hogwarts be raised by the old magic that she was born into. However, I do have a question.” Everyone cringed at what the headmaster might say. “What will her name be?” Snape looked down in the blue eyes that hid the promise of his grey ones that his daughter held. He saw a flicker in them and said, “Destiny.”

Well? What do you think? Let me know, Plz! I have two more chapters already done but would like to know what you lot think!

Chapter 2: Family surprises

Severus was walking briskly through the castle. It had almost been two years since the death of the Potters and Severus was still feeling the guilt for the grief he had caused. He was just striding past McGonagall’s office when he heard an all too familiar giggling of a very familiar child. As he walked into her classroom, he caught sight of the most hilarious thing he had ever seen in his life. His daughter, Destiny, had the cat version of McGonagall in her hands and was forcing the poor teacher to dance.

Destiny, now three, caught sight of her father. She dropped McGonagall, opened her arms wide and yelled, “Daddy!” As soon as the words left her mouth, the desks around her leapt to life and were flying all around his unaffected daughter. Severus, awestruck, strode towards his daughter whom happily made a path through the desks for him. He picked her up and gave her a warm hug. The desks came crashing down around her. “She’s getting more and more powerful, you know,” came the stern voice of Minerva. Severus let his daughter down to play with a doll. He and Minerva walked over to her desk and talked in hushed whispers. “I found her crying for you here in my office. When I approached her, she touched my had and I transformed!” Severus gave her a look. “Unintentionally? How is that possible?” Minerva shrugged and shook her head. “I was going to call for you so that I could ask Albus but since you’re already here…” Severus nodded and Minerva was off.

His child looked up at him with questioning eyes. “Nerva, bye bye?” “Yeah,” was all Severus said. Destiny stood up and walked over to her father. “Fying!” Severus smiled at her. Of all the things she knew how to do already, flying was her favorite. He had taken her flying with him on a few occasions but the last time was quite a few months ago. He swept her up in his arms and proceeded to his quarters where his broom was. . Anytime someone passed by she would scream, “Me fy wit daddy!”

Out in his daughter’s favorite place, the Quidditch field, Severus climbed on to his broomstick when Dumbledore called him over to himself and Minerva. “Daddy will be right back.” Severus laid down his broom and walked over to Albus and Minerva. Destiny, with her child curiosity, picked up her dad’s broom, mounted in as he had done and took off on the broom with her father, Dumbledore and Minerva chasing and yelling after her. She pulled complicated moves that not even Quidditch champions could master. When she landed, all three adults were staring at her in awe. Destiny, not knowing anything was wrong, happily handed her father his broom and said, “Me fy, Daddy! Me fy!” The adults resisted the urge to roll their eyes and scold her.

Chapter 3: The Sorting Hat

Destiny was sitting in her father’s office, playing around with her wand. Her father was the potions professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Severus Snape. She was now 15 but hadn’t started at Hogwarts yet. Headmaster Dumbledore took it upon himself to have her personally taught. Destiny had protested saying that her little brother, Harry, had been living with muggles and was still allowed to attend Hogwarts regularly. The teachers did not take this well and were now discussing the matter in private, which was why she was in her father’s office in the first place. McGonagall, professor of Transfiguration, came in along with her father and Albus Dumbledore.

“It is the decision of the teachers that you continue your education with the rest of the school,” said Dumbledore. “When the first years are sorted, you will be sorted into a house (‘Except Slytherin’ thought Destiny) and start in your 5th year.”

“5th year! But I’ll be 16 this year!” said Destiny. Her father, Severus, broke in.

“If you don’t like it, you could always keep with private lessons,” he said hopefully. Destiny cringed a little at her father’s tone because she knew he was unhappy about her decision to join the school. He may have been even hurt and she never considered it until now. “Sorry dad, but I’ll stick with the school. Do I have to stay in the common room or may I stay with father?” She hit a heartstring. Destiny knew all too well how to push Dumbledore’s buttons. “Of course. I would never deny you or your father that time together.”

She smiled despite herself. This would make it easier on her father and for her a little. She would be able to adjust with that comfort there. Of course, the whole school will think she was getting answers but Destiny didn’t care. ‘My life, my rules.’ She nodded at them and sat back down as they left. ‘I’ll be starting with the school! I hope dad doesn’t do anything drastic and make me eat with the teachers.’ In a few weeks, she would be in the great hall with everyone else. With that thought, she fell asleep on her father’s desk.

pqpqpqpqpq

‘Today’s the day.’ Destiny thought. She was looking in the mirror at her wardrobe. She had never been allowed a school uniform and frankly she hated the skirt thing. “Way too feminine,” she said allowed. “If you don’t like it, then don’t go.” Destiny whirled around to face her father. He was staring down with puffy eyes, had he been crying? He walked briskly to the other side of the room and dropped a set of the boys’ pants on her bed. “I thought you would make a comment so Albus will allow you to dress like the tomboy you are.” She smiled at her dad’s effort. ‘At least he isn’t giving me the look.’

Severus left the room so his daughter could change. He sat down on his own bed and stared at the moving picture in the frame. “She’s way too beautiful and rebellious. That’s your fault.” He said to the smiling face of Destiny’s mother. It was the only picture he had of Lily Evans that he could scrounge around for. He laid his head down on the glass and cried silent tears; not knowing his daughter was already in the room with him.

Destiny stood in the doorway of her father’s room, watching him cry over her mother’s picture. Though he would rather die than admit it, he had loved her mother all through their school years together. Countless times did her mother defend him against her little brother’s father, James, but he never thanked her. He never so much as talked to her if it could be helped. Destiny was hesitant but said, “Father?” Severus looked up at his daughter, standing in the doorway, watching him cry. “It’s almost time for the ceremony.” He nodded and wiped away his tears. He set down the picture frame and escorted her out to the great hall.

pqpqpqpqpq

Harry was ecstatic. He was back at Hogwarts and away from the miserable Dursley’s. He and his two best friends, Ron and Hermione, followed everyone into the great hall for the Welcome Feast and the Sorting Ceremony. Harry spotted his favorite teacher and good friend, Hagrid sitting with the rest of the teachers and talking to a girl he had never seen before yet somehow was familiar. Sitting next to Hagrid was Harry’s least favorite teacher, Severus Snape who taught potions. His eyes were puffy and when he looked at Harry, he seemed to have acquired more of a dislike (to put it mildly) for Harry, if that was possible.

The first years filed in after Professor McGonagall, the Transfiguration teacher. She led them to the front of the hall where they faced the rest of the students and the sorting hat began to sing:

In times of old when I was new
And Hogwarts barely started
The founders of our noble school
Thought never to be parted:
United by a common goal,
They had the self same yearning,
To make the world's best magic school
And pass along their learning.
"Together we will build and teach!"
The four good friends decided
And never did they dream that they
Might someday be divided,
For were there such friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor?
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw?
So how could it have gone so wrong?
How could such friendships fail?
Why, I was there and so can tell
The whole sad sorry tale.
Said Slytherin, "We'll teach just those
Whose ancestry is purest."
Said Ravenclaw, "We'll teach those whose
Intelligence is surest."
Said Gryffindor, "We'll teach all those
With brave deeds to their name."
Said Hufflepuff, "I'll teach the lot,
And treat them just the same."
These differences caused little strife
When first they came to light,
For each of the four founders had
A House in which they might
Take only those they wanted, so,
For instance, Slytherin
Took only pure-blood wizards
Of great cunning, just like him,
And only those of sharpest mind
Were taught by Ravenclaw,
While the bravest and the boldest
Went to daring Gryffindor.
Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest,
And taught them all she knew,
Thus the Houses and their founders
Retained friendships firm and true.
So Hogwarts worked in harmony
For several happy years,
But then discord crept among us
Feeding on our faults and fears.
The Houses that, like pillars four,
Had once held up our school,
Now turned upon each other and,
Divided, sought to rule.
And for a while it seemed the school
Must meet an early end,
What with duelling and with fighting
And the clash of friend on friend.
And at last there came a morning
When old Slytherin departed
And though the fighting then died out
He left us quite downhearted.
And never since the founders four
Were whittled down to three
Have the Houses been united
As they once were meant to be.
And now the Sorting Hat is here
And you all know the score:
I sort you into Houses
Because that is what I'm for,
But this year I'll go further,
Listen closely to my song:
Though condemned I am to split you
Still I worry that it's wrong,
Though I must fulfil my duty
And must quarter every year
Still I wonder whether sorting
May not bring the end I fear.
Oh, know the perils, read the signs,
The warning history shows,
For our Hogwarts is in danger
From external, deadly foes
And we must unite inside her
Or we'll crumble from within
I have told you, I have warned you...
Let the Sorting now begin.

Everyone gave the hat a round of applause while McGonagall called out students’ names. The hat would sit there for a moment and then shout something like: “Hufflepuff!”, “Ravenclaw!”, “Slytherin!” or “Griffindor!” and the respective houses would applaud. This year though, seemed to have more Slytherin’s than one would expect. Dumbledore stood up and welcomed everyone. “Welcome, welcome to the start of another year! Hopefully this year will go by uneventful.” He looked at Harry, Ron, and Hermione. “This year, we have a student that will be joining the ranks of the 5th years! Everyone please welcome Professor Snape’s daughter, Destiny!”

Everyone gave a nervous applause except for the Slytherin table, which was giving her a full applause. Harry noticed that Malfoy seemed particularly interested in the girl Harry had seen talking to Hagrid. She was now standing and smiling a sweet smile at everyone. “Bet she’ll be placed in Slytherin,” muttered Ron. Hermione nodded in agreement. Dumbledore quieted everyone and spoke again. “Being as she was not present for her first year, she will now be sorted into a house.”

This Destiny girl stepped forward, wearing boys’ pants as Hermione pointed out, and sat where the first years had just been. The Hat was placed on her head and he began to speak quietly to her. After what seemed like an eternity to everyone the Sorting Hat said, “Right then, okay, Griffindor!” Everyone at the Griffindor table stood and applauded while the Slytherin’s booed. “Now, now. It is only fair that the decision of the Sorting Hat be upheld.” Dumbledore started with the announcements while Destiny found a seat across from Harry and Ron and next to Hermione.

“I’m Hermione Granger. Destiny Snape, right?” Destiny looked at Hermione and nodded. She turned and looked at the boys but her silver gray eyes remained on Harry a bit longer. She gave him a sweet, almost loving smile, and turned to her attention back to Dumbledore. “Your father didn’t look too happy,” said Ron. Destiny looked at him with amusement. “Daddy knew what was coming. He knew I wouldn’t be allowed in Slytherin house. Dumbledore made it known to every teacher and the sorting hat that I was to be placed in a different house than Slytherin. To prevent prejudice from my father.” She had a sweet voice to match her attitude that made Harry relax. She gave him a sweet smile again and turned her attention down to the food that was now appearing on the table.

pqpqpqpqpq

After the dinner, everyone filed out of the hall and were proceeding to their dormitories when a slick voice called out, “Why weren’t you placed with us? Put in with the mudblood’s? That’s a joke.” Harry, who had been talking to Ron and Hermione while Destiny listened, turned around to face Draco Malfoy and his goonies, Crabbe and Goyle. Harry was about to say, “Shut up Malfoy,” when Destiny walked forward and said in her sweet almost musical voice, “Since when did you care where I was placed, Draco.” Ron stared at her in disbelief as he mouthed to Harry, “She knows him?” Draco blushed for a second then said, “You should be with you father in a respectable house.” She gave him a smile and tilted her head, “Last time you said something like that, you pulled on my pigtails and ran off laughing.” Now it was Harry’s turn to look at her like she was crazy. He couldn’t stop himself. “You two know each other?” Destiny looked at him nonchalantly, shrugged and said, “Yeah, our parents went to school together.” Malfoy continued to blush a little and said, “You don’t seem too worried about which house you’re in.” She gave an almost flirtatious smile and said, “As long a I learn magic, what difference does it make? And don’t start with the ‘mudblood’ thing because if you remember, my mother was one.”

She nodded at all of them and said a quick good night before she headed off down the corridor where her father greeted her. “What was that about?” Her father asked curtly. Destiny smiled and toyed, “Oh, Draco was just showing his true feelings for me while everyone was watching.” Severus gave his daughter a ‘don’t go there’ look and they walked away.

That night, Harry lay awake while his thoughts of Destiny flew through his head. Why did she look familiar? Harry took out the picture book of his parents and stared at their loving, smiling faces. Then it dawned on him. ‘She looks like my mother.’ Destiny had the same face and the same build. She even admitted that her mother was muggle-born as was his. Could it be?… No…it had to be a mistake. Harry closed the book, took off his glasses when he heard a musical voice say, “Goodnight, baby brother.” He sat up but no one was there.

In another part of the castle, a girl with black hair and silvery eyes smiled. ‘I guess you heard me.’

Yeah. I wanted her to protest though because of her powers. If she really was that powerful, then she would protest as to being put with "normal" students. I just wanted her to whine and complain a little! hee hee!

I'm actually at a bit of a writer's block. I can't think what to put for the fourth chapter. Any suggestions? By the way, this is a Draco x OC fic.

Chapter 4: Reveal Your Secrets

Destiny was pouring over her Transfiguration book when her father entered their little “house.” He strode into her room and kissed her forehead.

“How was your day?” He asked simply while examining the fresh pile of sweets she had received that day.

“It was good, unless you count that dreadful Umbridge woman.” She watched her father smile a little and said, “That’s why they should have given me the post but once again I’ve been denied.”

Destiny smiled at her father and went back to her studying. The workload and homework didn’t bother Destiny but she wanted to be able to pass her O.W.L.’s. Speaking of which, there was a live owl pecking at the window as usual with a roll of parchment tied to its leg. She opened the window while her father eyed the parchment. He hated that people kept sending letters hoping to get in good with her father. It was only proving to be more trouble for them if they did.

Destiny patted the owl and gave it a treat before it took off again and she unrolled the parchment. A simple note was written in beautiful handwriting.

Destiny,

Meet me in the owlry at 7:00 pm. I wish to speak to you privately.

Draco Malfoy

Destiny handed the letter to her father who read it over and examined the paper warily. He handed it back as she sat down with her book again. It was only about 6’oclock and she was still trying to study. Snape remained quiet for a while as he finished examining the rest of her gifts.

“Are you going?” He said finally.

“I planned on it. Does it bother you?” She looked up from her text book to see him still not looking at her. She smiled a knowing smile.

“You don’t want me to go, do you?” This caught his attention as she had expected. Snape looked at his daughter whom was still smiling.

“It’s your life. If you want to meet him then go but I’m just curious as to what he has to say in private that’s so important.” Destiny patted the spot beside her on her black canopied bed. He sat down where she had indicated and pets her head while she lay in his lap.

“Daddy, if you don’t want me to go, then I won’t.” She looked up at her father whom was staring into space.

“You may go but only if you want to.” She smiled at his effort to keep her there.

“How about this: I go and you can extract my memory so that you know what went on. Does that sound fair?” Snape looked at his daughter and smiled at her thoughtfulness. He nodded and kissed her forehead.

pqpqpqpqpq

Destiny strode quickly towards the owlry. She still had about 5 minutes but didn’t want to push it. As she reached the owlry, she saw that Draco was already there. He looked nervous as he paced around the tower and twiddled his fingers. He kept biting his lip in a way that made Destiny think he was cute.

“Hey, you wanted to speak to me?”

Draco turned at the sound of her voice and smiled slightly. The suns setting rays sharpened his boyish features to the point of making Destiny’s stomach do flip flops. She walked to the opposite side of the tower and gave him a penetrating gaze.

“Um…is your father here?” She raised an eyebrow but didn’t linger on it.

“No, you asked to speak to me privately, so here I am.” Destiny was getting slightly annoyed that he wasn’t to the point already.

“I was just making sure. You know your father.” She smirked. ‘Daddy’s going to love this.’

“Yeah, well, I was just wondering if you would go to Hogsmeade with me this weekend.”

Draco was twiddling his thumbs and dancing from foot to foot. He never once met her eyes and looked very uncomfortable.

“I would love to Draco.” She said simply. He looked at her finally with a mixture of relief and gratitude. She gave him a quizzical look.

“What’s with the face?” He suddenly blushed and looked a little disgruntled.

“It’s just that you and Potter seemed to be getting along and I was worried he had already asked.” Destiny laughed heartily. Draco just stared at her.

“Don’t worry about it, he and I are friends, for the moment.” Her answer didn’t seem to help him.

“For the moment?” She smiled at his sudden jealousy. He was so cute when he was like this. It was a side of him only she got to see.

“Yeah, promise to keep a secret?” At his nod and questioning face, she told him what only the teachers at Hogwarts knew.

“Harry is my little half-brother. He and I share the same mother. No one knows quite how it happened and daddy won’t tell me anything. I was born in Slytherin common room about 9 or ten months before him.”

Draco’s eyes were wide and his mouth was moving but no sound was coming out. Before he could say anything, they heard running footsteps in the stairwell outside. Destiny rushed to the door in horror. As she flung it open, she caught the sight of Ron’s fleeting form. “Shit,” she muttered under her breath.

She turned to Draco to say to forget the matter but he was already standing directly behind her. He wrapped his arms around her lovingly and nuzzled her face sweetly.

“Don’t worry about it. Your confession is a complete secret so naturally the whole school will know by tomorrow.”

His words were not comforting and her eyes welled up with unshed tears. She leaned in her head to Draco’s chest and cried.

“I didn’t want him to know yet. I wasn’t ready for him to know.”

She sobbed into him and balled her fists full of his robes. Everything became blurry from the tears and she didn’t know how but Draco’s lips found their way to hers. He kissed her softly but broke away after a moment.

“I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s no secret that Potter longs for family. He would never allow you to be bad-mouthed and neither would I. Trust me.”

She kissed him again and he walked her back to her “home.” Snape was waiting for them when they got back but before he could hurdle insults at Draco, Destiny spoke.

“Harry knows. And tomorrow the school will know.” Draco said his goodbyes and left. Neither Destiny nor her father spoke about it for the remainder of the evening.

Chapter 5: Let’s Talk

Destiny had heard the whispers all over the school. Wherever she was, she avoided contact with Harry at all times. One time, she had to run around the school to get away from him. He always seemed to know where she was and wanted to sit with her in classes but she never let him close to her. She was always afraid that he would call her a liar and stop hanging out with her. She never gave him the opportunity to talk.

Draco had started to accompany her everywhere. He would escort her to classes and the bathroom and he would bring her dinner from the Great Hall so she didn’t have to eat with the whispers and Harry sitting close by. Draco would even sit with her in the living room of her father’s and her private dormitory. After her father had viewed her memory in the Pensieve, he refused to allow Draco in her room after the kisses they had shared.

Her father seemed to be ruder to the students now that they knew her secret and Professor Umbridge was seen more than once walking briskly away from her father’s classroom looking quite disgruntled. He later told her that she had been requesting to see her grades to make sure he wasn’t playing favorites and he was refusing and threatened to jinx her a couple of times if she failed Destiny just because of him.

Destiny had chuckled at this but she didn’t laugh anymore. Her times with Draco and her father were fun but not as fun as having Harry, Ron and Hermione on her side. Her avoiding them was getting harder but at the same time easier though she wasn’t happy about it. When Harry didn’t have detention with Umbridge, he was following her everywhere and popping up out of nowhere when Draco wasn’t around which was hardly ever as it was. He even went as far as coming to her door. But she wouldn’t open it. It would be even harder to avoid Harry now that Hogsmeade weekend was tomorrow. Destiny just slept knowing that Harry would never approach her as long as Draco was near.

pqpqpqpqpqpq

Destiny was holding Draco’s arm the next day tightly. It was so tight that, on more than one occasion, Draco had to tell her to loosen up. Harry was a few feet ahead of them and kept looking back at her though he never said anything. Ron and Hermione were at either side of him, and they too kept looking back. Draco would shoot ugly looks at them and they would turn. She snuggled a little closer into Draco and he smiled and wrapped his arms around her. They neared Hogsmeade and she clutched Draco a little tighter again.

“Where do you want to go, sweetie?” Destiny looked up at Draco’s smiling face and watched Harry, Ron and Hermione disappear into Honeydukes. It was her first choice but decided against it. She pointed at Zonko’s Joke Shop and they went in that direction. While she was by the window display, she watched Harry, Ron and Hermione cross the street to the shop. She found Draco and as they entered and searched the shop, no doubt looking for her, Draco and her left to Honeydukes. This little plan was repeated a number of times until she and Draco could successfully avoid detection and get into the Three Broomsticks. They sipped on butterbeer and talked for a while. Draco excused himself for the bathroom as soon as he saw that Harry was nowhere in sight.

As if he was a magician, Harry appeared out of nowhere and sat down across from her. Ron and Hermione were guarding either side of her so she couldn’t get out and away. She was trapped with her brother and had to face the music. Harry looked a little hurt by the way she was reacting but she still lowered her gaze so she didn’t have to see his pain.

“Why are you avoiding me, Des? I would think that we would have a lot to talk about.” She looked up at his determined face.

“I wasn’t ready for you to know yet. I wanted to tell you myself about what we really were to each other. I never expected you’d send spies after me.” She added bitterly. Harry winced and she knew she had made an incorrect assumption.

“I didn’t send spies after you. Ron was going to send a letter home to his parents when he heard you talking to Malfoy. (He was gritting his teeth at the sound of his name.) Why hadn’t you told me earlier?”

Destiny shifted her feet under the table and wound her hands around her mug. Where was Draco when you needed him? She looked up at Harry again and saw that he was nervous about this confrontation.

“I already told you. I wasn’t ready for you to know yet. I wanted to tell you but something kept stopping me. And don’t say that I was ready to tell Draco everything either. I was just easing his troubled mind because he mistook our closeness for love. He was afraid that there was something other than friendship and family between us, okay?”

Harry was looking at her intently and she wished he would stop. As if reading her mind he softened his gaze and reached for her hand. She let him take it and trace his fingers over her palm as if looking for some resemblance. She smiled at his antics and his fingers were tickling her palm which wasn’t helping. She relaxed a little when she spotted Draco returning hurriedly from the bathroom. As he approached she smiled and mouthed, “It’s okay.” He eased up and sat down next to her and put an arm around her shoulders. Harry stiffened. She couldn’t help but tease.

“What happened to you? Fall in?” Draco blushed but muttered something about later. She shrugged her shoulders and looked back at Harry.

“Draco was right about you. You wouldn’t push me away.” Harry smiled and she saw her mother’s eyes.

“That’s another thing we need to talk about,” Harry said eyeing Draco as if he were dangerous. Destiny rolled her eyes.

“Who I date is my business. And before you get too overjoyed Draco, while it is not his concern, his opinion does matter to me.” Harry and Draco both looked down defeated. Hermione gave her a thumb up and Destiny returned it. Ron just rolled his eyes. Something about Harry’s eyes made her heart squeeze painfully. She wanted to see her mother.

“Harry, do you have pictures of mom? Dad and I only have a few of her in school and I would really love to know what she looked liked before…you know.” Harry nodded. All of them got up and left back for the school. Destiny was holding both Draco’s and Harry’s arms. They both looked uncomfortable to be seen so close together but Des didn’t care. She was just happy to have everything she wanted. It was about time she and Harry were like this. ‘Alright then, baby brother,’ she thought, ‘Let’s talk.’

Chapter 6: Pain

Destiny sat next to Harry in his room. She didn’t know how to comfort him anymore. Harry had lost his godfather and she couldn’t do anything about it. They had only known each other for a school year and while they were brother and sister, Destiny didn’t know a lot about what would comfort Harry. He’d avoided just about everyone in the hospital wing but now he had to face the music.

“Harry, you might like it outside. Let’s go out.” She said wrapping an arm around his shoulders only for him to shrug it off.

“Go away, Des. I’m not in a good mood.” She watched as his tears fell and it tore at her heart. They had only shared so much. She had even participated in Dumbledore’s Army but that didn’t bring her any closer to him now.

“Harry, tell me about him. It might make you feel better if you talk about it.” She tried a hand on his shoulder but it didn’t help either.

“I said go away!” He roared. He withdrew himself from her and flung himself on his bed.

Destiny sighed and stood. Harry didn’t want and consolation. If he wanted to suffer alone, then so be it. Destiny left the common room with only a look back at Harry and out to the common room. Ron and Hermione sat there, looking grim. They perked up at her appearance but at the look on her face, they looked down at the carpet.

“I take it Harry isn’t responding to you either.” Hermione had spoken.

“You have to ask?” Destiny said, feeling hopeless.

“Do you know of anyone who could get through to Harry?” Ron asked. Destiny shook her head.

“The only one who could do that was Dumbledore and he already spoke to Harry. If he couldn’t do it, and I couldn’t do it, then no one can.” The others nodded as Destiny went out the common room. Draco was waiting for her.

“How’s he doing?” Draco asked. Destiny shook her head and Draco sighed.

“I’m sorry. I had a hand in this, you know.” Destiny nodded. Draco had been part of the Inquisitorial Squad. Her father had given her a tongue lashing for having being a part of Dumbledore’s Army but was proud she was a rebel.

“Don’t worry about it, Draco. How’s your father? Any word yet?” Draco sighed heavily.

“He’s in Azkaban. My mother is distraught. The Dark Lord is furious and threatening to send me on an assignment.” Destiny hugged Draco.

“You can hide, you know.” Draco shook his head.

“I can’t leave my mother.”

“You can take her with you.”

“How long will it take for you-know-who to be destroyed? How long would we have to wait in hiding?” Destiny sighed.

“No one knows for sure, Draco. It might help you.” Draco shook his head.

“I’ll stand my ground.” She sighed and hugged him again.

“My warrior,” she said lovingly.

She and Draco walked back to her father and her quarters. He was sitting by the fire reading when they came in. He gave Draco a look as they sat down, hand in hand. Draco made a move to remove his hand but Destiny held it tightly. She shot a look back at her father and sat back in his chair, reading once again.

“How is Potter?” Her father asked curtly.

“You have to ask?” Destiny said for the second time that day.

“Just wondering. He is your brother after all.” It was the first time her father acknowledged it.

They sat there while he read and she and Draco stared at the fire. It was sunny outside but their room was never really warm. Kids were laughing a playing outside but they didn’t feel like joining them. Destiny suddenly had a thought.

“Did you know Harry’s godfather?” She looked at her dad expectantly. He scoffed and a sneer crossed his face.

“He was a git in school and didn’t seem to improve after it either. But I suppose he was made Harry’s godfather for a reason. He was Potter’s father’s best friend.” Destiny nodded.

“What was his name?” Her father gave her an annoyed look.

“Sirius Black was his name. He came from a family of pure-bloods. He was the only one placed in Griffindor.” Destiny sat back in her chair and thought for a moment. Draco was next to speak.

“He was my mother’s cousin.” Destiny turned to look at Draco. He was Draco’s mom’s cousin? It was a small world after all, and getting smaller.

“It was your aunt Bellatrix that killed Black from what I was told.” Destiny felt a pang in her heart. Her love’s family had killed the closest thing Harry had to a parent. She felt for Harry. He must really hate Draco by now.

“So, what happens now?” She asked to no one in particular.

“We take it one step at a time.” Her father answered. Silence fell between all of them.

Chapter 7: Secrets to Keep

Destiny sat on the Hogwarts Express bringing her to her 6th year. Harry, Ron, and Hermione sat across from her silently. Harry had thought her boyfriend Malfoy was up to something and he was but she would never admit that. Draco had talked to her less and less lately and seemed very annoyed with her father for some reason. Harry was talking to her still but he kept getting aggravated any time she defended Draco. She watched him now out of the corner of her eyes but he didn’t seem to be improving.

“Harry, are you still mad at me?” She asked suddenly. He turned to look at her with an impassive gaze.

“I’m not mad at you, Des. I’m just disappointed that you still defend Malfoy after everything I told you.” Destiny didn’t like where this was going.

“And what about my father? You don’t seem to like him much this year either.” Harry shrugged.

“Your father and I have never gotten along very good. In fact, he’s tried his best to get me thrown out of Hogwarts but has never succeeded. So, forgive me if I’m not one to jump in to defend him.” Des looked away. She would not let Harry see her upset. She’d never raised her voice to him and would not start now.

“Harry’s just suspicious because he’s never been friends with Malfoy or your father. Neither of them has done anything to help either so don’t take it personally.” Hermione said from behind her book. Des ignored her. Her father was not a bad person. He was misunderstood and so was Draco.

Harry got invited to the Slug Club by Professor Slughorn and left, thankfully. Destiny was not going to have him telling her that her father was a traitor and Draco was working with him. Hermione and Ron didn’t share Harry’s views though they didn’t like her loved ones either. The train came to a stop and they exited but there was not sign of Harry. Had he not gotten off the train? Destiny cast a nervous glance over her shoulder but stopped when she heard giddy giggling.

Destiny turned back around to see Draco and Pansy looking quite cozy. It tugged on one of her heartstrings to see his arm snake around her waist. Was that the reason he wasn’t talking to her? Draco entered a carriage with Pansy, Crabbe, and Goyle. Destiny followed Hermione and Ron into a separate carriage. They entered the school in no time and found themselves seated and sorted in almost a blink of an eye. Whispers about Harry being the ‘Chosen One’ was circulating the tables but Destiny ignored it as she watched Draco and Pansy sit closer together.

“Welcome to another year at Hogwarts!” Professor Dumbledore called out. He continued with the usual announcements as Harry came in and sat by them. Her father quickly followed and she noticed the glare Harry was sending his way before she stepped on his foot. She looked back over at Draco to see him holding Pansy’s hand. She diverted her attention to her father who noticed the pained look in her eyes. He frowned but didn’t say anything there but she would be questioned later.

They left the Great Hall and went to their rooms. She entered the now barren room filled with boxes and their personal things. Her father came in a short time later looking rather pissed off and sat down in his chair sulking. She didn’t ask any question but went to unpack their things. Her father cleared his throat which signaled her to sit down. She obeyed and waited for the second degree.

“What was the look about in the Great Hall?” Did he have to get right down to business?

“Draco was a little too cozy with Pansy Parkinson. It hurt, that’s all.” Severus nodded.

“It seems Draco is the source of a lot of problems.” Destiny gave him a face and he sighed.

“Draco was given a dangerous task by the Dark Lord as punishment for his father’s mistake last year. He won’t tell me a thing.” Destiny shook her head, her eyes wide.

“Harry suspected he was up to something but Draco would never do anything to hurt anyone.” Severus gave her a stern look.

“Just because you love him does not make him innocent. He will carry out the task given to him because his father and his aunt are pressuring him to do a good job. Besides, his family’s lives are at stake.” Destiny turned to the empty fireplace, trying to hide her tears. Not her Draco!

“Destiny,” her father spoke softly. “I know you still love him but his mother came to me. I made the Unbreakable Vow that if Draco couldn’t or wouldn’t do it, then I would. It will save him the trouble of being guilty if only he would talk to me. He is avoiding my assistance.” Destiny let the tears fall. She had no choice in the matter.

“So, I either lose my love or lose my life?” Her father knitted his eyebrows together in question.

“You and Harry are the only family I have. I have a feeling that this task, whatever it is, will hurt Harry badly. So I can lose my love and my brother or I can lose my life. My family is my life.” Severus crossed the room and hugged his crying daughter. He stroked her hair gently as she sobbed into his robes.

“Destiny,” he said slowly. “You must promise never to say what the task is when I tell you. I will have to put a silencing charm on you. Dumbledore already knows what the task is.” Destiny looked up at her father and nodded. Her hands clutched the fabric in front of her as she tried to brace herself for the news.

“The task that Draco has been assigned, that I have vowed to carry out in the event that he could not do it is,” he paused to take a breath, “to kill Dumbledore.”

Destiny’s eyes went wide as the tears fell faster. Her breathing labored as she took in what he was saying. If Draco couldn’t kill Dumbledore, the man she considered a grandfather, her father would have to or die. He would have to kill the only person who ever believed he was truly sorry for being a Death Eater. Her father hugged her tighter as she cried. The spell, the Silencing spell, was cast upon her now. She would have to hurt Harry because she knew the plan. She would carry the secret to the grave. Her father pulled away from her enough to look into her tear-filled eyes.

Destiny put her head down so that he couldn’t look at her anymore and with trembling lips said,

“I will never tell. I promise.”

Chapter 8: Final Secrets

Destiny woke to the green light and the sound of footsteps coming down the hall. Her first reaction was to find the source of the light. It was coming from the astronomy tower. The Dark Mark hung in the air as she heard sounds of a battle being waged just outside in the hall. She got out of bed and ran to her father's room. He was already up and dressed. He was in the middle of putting his shoes on when he looked up at her entrance. She gave him a scared but questioning look and he nodded. He stood up and crossed the room to her. He took her in his arms, a tight embrace.

"It's started. No matter what, do not leave this room. Dumbledore will be back any minute now. Draco and I will be just fine."

She nodded but wasn't convinced. He kissed her forehead, grabbed his wand and left their private quarters. She watched as lights were being fired near the astronomy tower and shadows danced across the windows. The battle could be heard outside the door. She was just about to disobey her father when Dumbledore came flying into the school grounds. Harry was close behind him. She watched as he put on the invisibility cloak and they landed in the astronomy tower. Knowing that no matter what, she would lose what family she had, she left the room and went to join the battle. Most of the Death Eaters were gone and the Order was trying to get through an invisible barrier.

Destiny heard the incantation and the pleading. The plan was in motion and the act had begun. A green light came from the tower followed by silence and a thump. That was it. The task was done. A pain stabbed at her heart as she watched her father and Draco running past her into the Great Hall. She followed them as she heard the Death Eaters and the Order start up the fight again. They were fast and she could hear Harry's footsteps close behind her. She rounded a corner and drew them with her. Her father and Draco were surprised to see her.

"I told you to stay in the room. It isn't safe." Her father argued. Draco nodded in agreement.

"Your father's right, we'll be fine." She shook her head.

"Head outside the grounds and apparate. I'll buy you some time with Harry but it won't be much." Her father hugged her and kissed her forehead. Draco hugged her and kissed her fully.

"You've got to be one hell of a woman to take on your brother now." She smiled sadly.

"Stop talking to me and run. Harry will catch up to us if we just stand here." They nodded and with one final glance to her, they took off running for the gate. Harry rounded the corner and Destiny pointed her wand at him.

"Harry, don't do something stupid. I don't want you killed." Harry came right up to her and pointed his wand in return.

"Get out of my way!" She shook her head and realization dawned in his eyes as he slammed her against the wall.

"Did you know! Did you know about this!" He roared. She cried silent tears. She couldn't tell him. She was bound. He looked disgusted and as he released her he said,

"You are no sister of mine."

He ran off after her father and her love. She crumbled to the floor and cried. In a matter of a year, she had lost her father, her brother, and her love. The ministry would no doubt bring her in once Harry told them what happened. Destiny stood up and went to the nearest window. She watched her father and Harry battle it out and her father shouting something at Harry. Harry was knocked backwards and her father crossed the gate and the apparation barrier. With one sad look at her, he apparated. She didn't stop the tears from flowing as her grief filled the empty spaces now held in her heart.

Surprisingly, Harry had vouched for her, saying she took no part in the plan or the battle but he still wouldn't even look at her. She had attempted to visit him in the hospital wing where the Weasley's were but no one would let her in. They called her a traitor and asked how she could do things like that to Harry. The phoenix's song nearly tore at her heart the way it did everybody else but it didn't have the same effect. She thought of it as a song of hope, not a song of sadness.

Destiny attended the funeral procession with a few dirty looks from the students she had called friends and the teachers she had once considered family. She listened to the words of grief and watched as everyone paid tribute to the fallen Headmaster. After the flames and the tomb, she walked over to a tree by the Black Lake. She watched Harry, Ron and Hermione talk from a distance. They got closer but didn't seem to notice her. Harry mentioned how if he found her father, it would be too bad for him and she smiled at that. By the time he found him, her father's name would be cleared.

The train took off to a place she once called home but it now felt empty. Destiny exited the train, same as everybody else, and followed them out through the barrier back into the muggle world. She watched Harry leave with their aunt and uncle and cousin but didn't attempt to talk to him. Someone knocked into her right shoulder and she watched the Weasley family walk around her, one of the twins being the culprit of the bump. Let them think what they wanted. She caught a cab and rode it to an isolated location with only a few houses. When the cab drove away, she apparated, now that she was licsenced to, to a different area of London. It was a danky old street with the smell of rotting garbage.

Destiny walked down to the end of the road and cut across the grass to an empty, brown lot. She waited for a second as a house appeared out of thin air. She walked up the steps and knocked on the door. This place would be her home as her father would continue his job as spy within the Dark Lord's reaches. The curtain was pushed aside by a red bird that squaked happily. The door then opened to reveal a tall, old man with a long beard, equally long hair, half-moon spectacles and wizards robes. One of his hands was badly burned and shriveled. The old man gave her a smile.

"Welcome home, Destiny." She smiled her best, which was a sad one.

"It's good to be home, Dumbledore."
